There’s something special about stepping away from the routine and simply enjoying time together—and our recent trip to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay was exactly that.

While many came for the thrill rides (and they absolutely delivered!), the unexpected highlight of the day was the incredible animal encounters.

 Behind-the-Scenes Animal Encounter
or some of our families, the experience went even deeper through a special private, behind-the-scenes animal encounter.  We had the opportunity to hear from extremely knowledgeable animal care specialists while creating special one of a kind memories.  This portion of the day was truly unforgettable.

  • 🦩 Flamingos – We had the chance to feed three different species while learning all about their social dynamics.
  • 🦥 Harry the Sloth – Yes, the Harry! Google him. A bit of a celebrity, and getting to meet and pet him was a highlight for many.
  • 🐜 Tamandua – Such a unique and fascinating animal—this was a rare opportunity to see one up close.
  • 🛡️ Three-Banded Armadillo – Gentle, curious, and not the create you expect to consider adorable.

These kinds of encounters take the experience to another level and are definitely worth considering if you have the opportunity in the future.

As we explored the park, we also attend a cheetah talk, where we watched in awe as a cheetah sprinted at top speed. Seeing that kind of power and grace up close is something you just can’t replicate in a textbook—it was one of those moments that reminded us why these experiences matter so much.  Later,  we stopped to observe a tiger playfully frolicking in his habitat adding even more excitement to an already full day.

Of course, the roller coasters brought plenty of thrills for those who were ready for them. But what made this trip truly special was that there was something for everyone—even for those who chose not to ride. Families could explore, learn, and enjoy the park together at their own pace.

For many of us who co-op and learn together regularly, this was a refreshing opportunity to simply connect, laugh, and make memories outside of our usual structure.

It was fun. It was meaningful. And it was absolutely worth it.

In fact… we may just have to do it again.

Stay tuned—there’s a good chance a fall trip is coming!

Some of our families turned this trip into a full mini getaway.  Read about our strawberry picking adventure in Plant City here.

We haven’t been to Bush Gardens in more than 20 years and it was very special to go back now with my teenager. I had forgotten about the beautiful animals they have and how well they take care of them. The roller coasters didn’t disappoint. All together super fun experience!!!
