This fall, I will be teaching two 10-week classes on Tuesday mornings at Voskill which is the Palm Beach county location for the South Florida Homeschool Resource Center. These classes reflect the heart of Homeschool Palm Beach: helping learners connect real life, critical thinking, responsibility, and confidence in a way that feels practical and meaningful. While the classes are listed for ages 11–14, older learners are welcome as well, especially those who would benefit from guided discussion, real-world scenarios, and practical conversations about independence, responsibility, and financial awareness. Real Life Ready: Life Skills Lab This class is very close to my heart because I believe our learners need more than information — they need opportunities to think, practice, discuss, and grow into capable young people. We will explore real-life situations involving responsibility, communication, organization, decision-making, problem-solving, independence, confidence, and respectful interactions. My goal is not to lecture them about “adulting,” but to help them think through real-life choices in a way that builds maturity. What do I notice? What am I assuming? Who is affected? What are my options? What would build trust? What should I communicate? These are the kinds of questions we will practice through group discussion, scenarios, activities, and hands-on challenges. My goal is to help learners begin to understand that money is about much more than earning a paycheck. We will look at real-world financial decisions such as income, expenses, budgeting, saving, needs versus wants, hidden costs, and the reality of living independently. I want learners to walk away with a clearer understanding of how everyday choices connect to freedom, responsibility, and long-term goals. While we will cover some financial terms and concepts, learners will be encouraged to engage in group discussions and share ideas.
