Resources

Handpicked Programs from a Homeschool Mom Who’s Been There
I’ve created this Resources page to share the places, programs, and experiences that I personally trust. I’ve visited these locations myself—often more than once—and many of them come from field trips and activities I’ve organized for local homeschool families. These recommendations aren’t random links; they’re a collection of what has truly worked for us in Palm Beach County.

If you are interested but don’t have the time (or desire) to plan an outing yourself, I’m always happy to handle the details and put the experience together for you. Helping families explore, learn, and enjoy their homeschool journey is what I love most.  Let's connect.

Nature & Outdoor Learning

Commons Park A popular gathering place in Royal Palm Beach for homeschool golf, co-op meetups and outdoor learning. On hot days, learners can cool off at the splash pad during breaks.

Mounts Botanical Garden A rich setting for plant studies—monocots, dicots, herbs, candle trees, and more. You can choose a guided tour or explore independently, and it’s the kind of place that leaves learners excited to grow something themselves.

Okeeheelee Nature Center A great place for learners to explore Florida wildlife, walk shaded trails, and engage with hands-on nature exhibits. Ideal for science observation, animal studies, and archery

Riverbend Park A strong option for guided treks and nature study. Learners can identify native plants, explore local ecosystems, and connect history through discussions about the Seminoles and the Battle of Loxahatchee.

Village Park A reliable meeting spot in Wellington and the home of West Area Park Days hosted by Parents Educating Children (PEC) on the second Friday of each month.

Farms

Bedner’s Farm
Learners can take a tractor ride through the 80 acres that grow the produce sold in the market. The visit highlights the essential role of bees in the farm’s ecosystem, and learners often get to sample fresh treats straight from the garden.

Braveheart Farm A thoughtful setting where learners connect with horses while building skills in responsibility, communication, and emotional awareness. Dr. Aponte incorporates neuroscience-based approaches that support growth and self-regulation.

Jupiter Creamery A hands-on farmstead experience where learners meet the animals and practice skills needed to run a small working farm. From milking cows to gathering eggs or making simple farm products, it offers a genuine look at homesteading and farm-to-table living.

Volunteer

Braveheart Farm
A volunteer-run nonprofit that supports participants with diverse functionality and underserved populations through equine-assisted activities. Volunteers are needed to help with barn chores, horse care, and general upkeep. With proper training, learners can also assist in facilitating equine-assisted sessions, gaining meaningful experience while contributing to a supportive and mission-driven environment.

Community Greening
An organization committed to planting trees across Palm Beach County as development continues to remove them. Learners can volunteer in the garden by planting seedlings, replanting young trees as they grow, weeding, organizing materials, and supporting a variety of hands-on tasks. It’s a meaningful way to contribute to local conservation and understand the impact of community-based environmental work.

Feeding South Florida A vital organization supporting families across the county who are struggling to put food on the table. Volunteers help sort and inspect donated food to ensure it can be safely distributed. At the end of each session, learners are told exactly how many pounds of food they processed and how many families will receive support from their efforts — a powerful way to see the impact of their service.
