Core Values

Building character that lasts on and off the golf course.
New Student Inquiry
The 9 Core Values are at the heart of this homeschool golf curriculum. Golf develops far more than athletic skill — it strengthens character, emotional maturity, and thoughtful decision-making in ways few other activities can match.

And just like golf itself, these values don’t stand alone — they support one another.  Respect and courtesy shape how learners communicate. Responsibility builds good judgment. Integrity reinforces honesty and perseverance. Together, these values help learners grow into confident, capable, grounded young people on and off the course.
1. Respect
Golf begins with respect — for oneself, for others, for the course, and for the traditions of the game.

Learners practice listening without interrupting, speaking kindly, and valuing other people’s time. Respect naturally supports good judgment and responsible behavior.

2. Courtesy

Courtesy is one of golf’s simplest but strongest lessons.

Learners practice being still and quiet while others take their shot, saying “please” and “thank you,” and waiting for the appropriate moment to ask questions. Courteous habits reinforce integrity and respect in every interaction.

3. Honesty

Golf is one of the few sports where players call penalties on themselves.

Learners experience honesty not as a rule, but as a behavior that builds trust, self-respect, and confidence.

4. Responsibility
Golf asks learners to take ownership of their actions — both on the course and in the routines that support good practice.

Learners are expected to remember their water bottle, bring a hat for sun protection, carry their own clubs (not pass them to parents), return borrowed clubs or equipment and keep track of personal belongings,  These habits strengthen good judgment, build self-reliance, and help learners develop pride in their effort.

5. Integrity
Integrity is doing what’s right — especially when no one is watching.

Golf offers countless opportunities to practice fairness, emotional composure, and truthfulness. Integrity works hand in hand with respect, courtesy, and good judgment.

6. Perseverance

Golf teaches perseverance more clearly than almost any other sport.

Learners navigate tough holes, off-days, and frustrating moments — discovering that real progress comes from continuing, adjusting, and trying again.

7. Confidence
Confidence grows through repetition, awareness, and celebrating progress.

Learners learn to trust their swing, recognize improvements, and stay grounded even when a shot goes off track. A confident golfer plays with clarity, resilience, and joy.

8. Sportsmanship

Golf teaches learners to compete with kindness, fairness, and respect — whether they’re ahead or behind.

Sportsmanship strengthens emotional maturity, self-control, and a healthy perspective on competition.

9. Judgment
Good judgment helps learners make smart decisions on and off the course.

Learners practice judgment through choosing the right club, deciding when to play safe or take a chance, selecting realistic shots and honoring safety guidelines.  Judgment grows from awareness, responsibility, and respect — and becomes a foundation for thoughtful decision-making throughout life.
